Upper materials

Smooth leather

Smooth leather

Our brands exclusively use leather of a thickness of up to 3 mm. This way the natural product remains fully flexible, soft and supple in spite of its good stability. Natural leather is easily recognisable by its structured grain pattern on the top side and by the shimmering colour display of the skin texture. These are signs of nature and visible characteristics of outstanding quality. Therefore we do not use synthetic covering colours which would hide these differences. The leather remains porous and breathable.

Suede

Suede

In contrast to smooth leather the surface of suede leather feels softer. The softer structure occurs due to the removal of the topmost leather layer and subtle sanding of the surface with pumice or sand paper. This way suede becomes particularly supple.

Embossed leather

In order to underline the natural colour tones and highlight the exclusive quality we put special emphasis on the grain pattern. This pattern is emphasised by special embossing techniques.

Nubuck leather

Nubuck leather

Nubuck leather is the term for finest full-grain leather. Sanding the grain side of this leather lends the surface its velvety character. Nubuck leather is solely made of calf leather.

Pure wool

As with the leather we use, the same high quality standards apply to our choice of pure wool. Only the best wool is used. Pure wool has highly functional characteristics: in the winter it keeps feet pleasantly warm and in summer it has a nice cooling effect.

Microfibre

Microfibre

When looking at the individual strand of fibre, microfibres are noticeable finer than silk, cotton, or wool fibres. At besser gehen you find extraordinarily soft and dimensionally stable microfibres with a delicate nubuk-like look. The fibres are particularly light, durable, skin-friendly, and breathable.

Alpro-Leather

Alpro-Leather combines the positive characteristics of natural leather with material innovations thus meeting the highest demands of work and leisure time. Due to its special refinement Alpro-Leather is insensitive to oils, chemicals, and grease – they simply roll off the surface.

Boxcalf-Leather

Boxcalf-Leather is an especially fine type of calf leather. This type of leather distinguishes itself in that it is noticeably soft to the touch and features an exclusive look.

Patent leather

Maintaining all positive characteristics of natural leather the topmost layer of patent leather is given a high-gloss shiny finish.

Birko-Flor

Birko-Flor

As vegan alternative to leather besser gehen offers you a wide range of products whose upper material is Birko-Flor. Birko-Flor is a skin-friendly, non-tearing, coated, easy-care synthetic fibre fleece. The top layer has a leather-like structure which can be produced in an unlimited variety of colours, patterns and designs. The inside fleece is soft and supple and perfectly adjusts to the foot. The outer layer can be cleaned quite easily.

Birko-Flor Nubuck

By sanding the upper Birko-Flor layer this type of upper material receives its velvety soft character. This way a precious high-class look is achieved.

Birko-Flor Suede

By treating the surface structure with sanding paper or pumice the upper layer of Birko-Flor is roughened up and receives its distinctive suede-look.

Birko-Felt

Birko-Felt

Birko-Felt consists of a blend of spun rayon and durable synthetic fibre felt. This combination makes this upper material virtually untearable. At the same time skin-friendly Birko-Felt is very absorbent, easy-care and permeable to air.

Synthetic

Synthetic is a generic term for all artificially developed materials which distinguish themselves by durability, longevity, and versatility.

Alpro-Foam

Alpro-Foam

Alpro-Foam is mostly used in the production of bath and leisure clogs/sandals. The raw material consists of a granulate which is liquefied by heat and then poured into the desired form. This production step renders Alpro-Foam particularly soft and elastic; it follows every movement while keeping the foot safely inside the footbed. Moreover, Alpro-Foam distinguishes itself by characteristics such as shock absorption, oil and grease resistance, and slip-resistance (depending on the type of cast used). Alpro-Foam is also used in the production of soft footbeds especially due to its high degree of shock absorption properties.

Alpro-Cell

Alpro-Cell

Alpro-Cell is featherlight, flexible, and versatile. Normally Alpro-Cell is used in the production of bath and leisure sandals/clogs. Due to its low weight Alpro-Cell is hardly noticed when worn. On account of this Alpro-Cell products are ideal for use at the swimming pool, on holidays and at the beach.

PU

Polyurethane (PU) is normally used in the production of bath and leisure clogs/sandals. PU is particularly soft and elastic and follows every movement yet keeps the foot safely aligned within the footbed. PU distinguishes itself by characteristics such as great shock absorption, oil and grease resistance and slip-resistance (depending on the type of cast used).

EVA

Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) is very light and flexible. EVA is mainly used in the production of bath and leisure sandals/clogs. Due to its low weight products made of EVA are ideal for use in all areas where hardly noticeable weight is important.

Neoprene

Neoprene is the term for synthetic rubber in which innumerable tiny gas bubbles are evenly distributed. Due to this material composition Neoprene is extremely elastic and has outstanding insulation characteristics. At the same time Neoprene is resistant to a variety of chemicals, oil and sunlight.

Alsa-Flor, Albero-Flor

Alsa-Flor/Albero-Flor is an alternative to leather and is made without the use of animal products. The inside consists of a synthetic fibre fleece, the outside of a special coating. Alsa-Flor/Albero-Flor is a skin-friendly, non-tearing, and easy-care material which can be produced in all kinds of colours, patterns, and designs. The inside fleece is soft and perfectly adjusts to the foot. The outer layer is easy to clean.
